Critical Prayer Need and Video Update
Chiang Mai Flooding
Good Thai Afternoon Team,
We are contacting you to ask your prayer for the city of Chiang Mai and northern Thailand.
About a week ago, the Ping River overflowed its banks and flooded much of the land surrounding the river. Critical level for the river at the measuring point is 3.7 meters high. During last week's flood, water levels reached 4.2 meters.
Today (Thursday afternoon, Thai time), we are receiving news that the river is now at 4.02 meters and expected to reach 4.95 meters as of 2am on our Friday morning (2pm Thursday afternoon, Central Time US).
This will mean that tonight's flooding will likely be more extensive than last week's...and this water is coming very quickly, making it a more dangerous situation for people trying to escape.
Our kid's school was closed today and will remain closed for Friday to keep people off the roads.
To be clear...our house has not been affected by this flooding. While I (Ben) have posted pictures on Facebook about the street in front of our house being flooded, this happens every time we get a hard rain. There is no danger in this for us.
However...please be in prayer for the people who live and work in the areas around the Ping River and the canals that move water out of the local mountains and toward the river.
What Can You Do to Help?
The first and most effective thing you can do for Chiang Mai right now is to pray!
We don't know what our involvement in flood relief might be. It will depend on the effect of the flooding on people we know.
We have an account to help us respond to crises like this called the Thailand Crisis Relief Fund. Having the resources in advance of the need to respond helps us act quickly during dire times.
If you would like to give to the Thailand Crisis Relief Fund to help with the current flooding situation or future crises, you can click HERE.
Mininstry Update Video
I recently created a video that includes a little bit about last week's floods and some updates about ministry going on here lately. You can find it by clicking below:

Thank you all for your prayers, especially for the next few hours!
Blessings,
Ben and Becca Johnson
